Charged with Money Laundering in Texas?

Defend Your Future with a Firm That Knows How to Fight

Considered a white-collar crime punishable under both state and federal law, money laundering is a serious offense. Those convicted are almost always done so on felony charges and can face many years in prison and thousands of dollars in fines.

According to state law, you can be charged with money laundering if you involve yourself with the proceeds of a criminal activity by:

  • Acquiring the proceeds
  • Concealing the proceeds
  • Possessing the proceeds
  • Transferring the proceeds

At The Law Offices of Alex R. Hernandez, Jr. PLLC, we understand precisely what you are up against and are capable of fighting back. Our team is backed by decades of legal experience, enabling us to enter the courtroom confidently on your behalf.

What Are the Charges and Penalties for Money Laundering?

Proving that you are guilty of money laundering depends on the prosecutor’s ability to prove that you knew about the criminal activity by which the proceeds were obtained. From there, the penalties are based on the amount of money that was involved in the alleged offense.

The following amounts will generally result in the subsequent penalties:

  • Between $1,500 and $20,000: a state jail felony punishable by up to $10,000 in fines and up to two years in jail
  • Between $20,000 and $100,000: a third-degree felony punishable by up to $10,000 in fines and up to 10 years in prison
  • Between $100,000 and $200,000: a second-degree felony punishable by up to $10,000 in fines and up to 20 years in prison
  • More than $200,000: a first-degree felony punishable by $10,000 and possible life imprisonment
